Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider has the utmost faith in closer Jeff Hoffman even after the right-hander blew his fourth save of the season in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox.

"We trust the shit out of Jeff Hoffman. I do," Schneider said, according to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson.

"It's easy to point blame at him, but he's been on the other side of us winning a whole lot of games. It's a tough stretch for him, but we know he'll come out of it."

Hoffman entered Sunday's contest in the eighth inning with two outs, two runners on, and the Blue Jays ahead by a run. The 32-year-old walked the bases loaded and made a critical fielding error on an Andrew Benintendi dribbler near the mound that allowed the tying run to score.

Miguel Vargas followed Benintendi with a two-run, go-ahead double off Hoffman before the right-hander induced a fly out from Kyle Teel to end the frame.

The Blue Jays didn't score after the eighth, losing the game and series to the lowly White Sox.

Hoffman is 17-of-21 in save opportunities with a 5.29 ERA during his first campaign in Toronto after signing a three-year, $33-million deal in January.
