MLB honored Toronto Blue Jays slugger George Springer as the American League Player of the Week after his red-hot performance over the last seven days.
The 35-year-old hit .429/.500/.964 with five homers, 13 RBIs, and nine runs scored over the last week, delivering five multi-hit games and a pair of two-homer performances. Springer notched a career-high seven RBIs during Toronto's Canada Day win over the New York Yankees and was the first Blue Jays player to drive in at least seven against the Bronx Bombers since 1977.
Thanks in large part to Springer's scorching hot bat, the Blue Jays went 7-0 over the past week to leapfrog the Yankees for first place in the AL East.
The Player of the Week honor is the sixth time Springer has won the award in his career and his first since 2021. He's the first Blue Jays player to win it this season.
Springer is enjoying a solid comeback campaign, hitting .281/.374/.512 with 16 homers, 53 RBIs, and 10 steals over 84 games.
