D-Backs' Suárez: Reuniting with Tigers 'would be cool'
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez is one of the likeliest players to be dealt before the July 31 trade deadline, and the slugger would relish an opportunity for a reunion with the Detroit Tigers.
"To finish where everything started, it would be cool," Suárez said, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. "It would mean a lot to me."
Suarez began his big-league career with the Tigers in 2014. He appeared in 85 games for them before he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds.
The 12-year veteran has since established himself as one of baseball's premier power hitters, belting 307 homers. He's gone deep 31 times this season and leads the National League with 78 RBIs.
The Tigers own the best record in the majors at the All-Star break, and could use a power-hitting third baseman like Suárez, who believes he'd be a good fit on a team with World Series aspirations.
"They got, for me, the best pitcher in the league right now: Tarik Skubal," Suárez said. "They got a bunch of good players. I think they really have a chance to win it all this year."
Suárez, 34, is a free agent at the end of the campaign.
