The Boston Red Sox signed rookie outfielder Roman Anthony to an eight-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.

Anthony's deal, which officially begins next season, is reportedly worth $130 million, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan. It includes a 2034 club option worth $30 million if exercised.

The contract also features a series of escalator clauses based on how Anthony performs in award voting, MassLive's Chris Cotillo reports.

Shortly after officially signing his deal, Anthony told reporters that his decision to take the offer and delay his free agency was an easy one.

"When the offer came through it was something I wanted to move quick on and there was no doubt this is where I wanted to play baseball for a long time," the 21-year-old said, according to Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald.

Anthony was considered baseball's No.1 prospect before the Red Sox called him up to make his major-league debut June 9.

Since arriving in MLB, he's slashed .283/.400/.428 with 18 extra-base hits and 19 RBIs in 46 games.

Anthony's extension follows the Red Sox trading Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in June. Devers was in the second year of a 10-year, $313.5-million contract when he was dealt.

The Red Sox also inked fellow youngster Kristian Campbell to an eight-year, $60-million extension in April.
