The Boston Red Sox signed left-handed closer Aroldis Chapman to a one-year contract extension for 2026 with a vesting/mutual option for 2027, the team announced Sunday.

The 2026 portion of Chapman's deal is for $13.3 million, sources told MassLive's Chris Cotillo.

Chapman can earn $26 million over the two seasons if the option vests, Cotillo adds.

Chapman, 37, owns a 1.04 ERA with 74 strikeouts in 52 innings for the Red Sox after signing a one-year, $10.75-million deal in December. His 26 saves rank fifth in the American League, while his 2.2 fWAR is tied for the highest among qualified MLB relievers.

The eight-time All-Star hasn't allowed a hit since July 23 and has given up just one earned run in the second half of the season.
