Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Trey Yesavage set a franchise record for the most strikeouts in a major-league debut with nine during an impressive outing against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday.

The 22-year-old struck out Brandon Lowe for his first punchout in the first inning before striking out five in a row later in the contest.

Yesavage allowed three hits and walked two. He generated 19 swing-and-misses, which included 11 whiffs via his splitter, during his outing.

He exited the game in the sixth with the Blue Jays trailing 1-0. Toronto came back to beat Tampa Bay 2-1 in eleven innings.

"It was as special as I thought," Yesavage said of his debut, according to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson.

"It was almost like there was some sort of trance put over me with a feeling of peace out there. I enjoyed every moment."

Yesavage made his big-league debut after starting the 2025 campaign with Single-A Dunedin.

He was picked 20th overall by the Blue Jays in the 2024 draft.
