Dodgers clinch 13th straight playoff berth
The Los Angeles Dodgers will have the chance to defend their World Series championship.
Los Angeles clinched its 13th straight postseason appearance Friday by virtue of the Arizona Diamondbacks' 8-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies at Chase Field. The Dodgers clinched while in the midst of playing the San Francisco Giants at Chavez Ravine.
The Dodgers' current run is now tied with the 1995-2007 New York Yankees for the second-longest streak of consecutive playoff berths in MLB history. Only the 1991-2005 Atlanta Braves had a longer streak.
Since 2013, the Dodgers have won their division in all but one season (2021), while also claiming four NL pennants and two World Series titles.
Los Angeles beat the Giants 6-3 Friday, and lowered its magic number to win the NL West to four. The Dodgers continue to hold down the NL's No. 3 seed.
Los Angeles joined the Phillies, Chicago Cubs, and Milwaukee Brewers as teams to already qualify for the NL playoffs.
