The Chicago Cubs clinched the National League's No. 4 seed and home-field advantage against the San Diego Padres in the wild-card series with a 7-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.
Game 1 of the best-of-three series will be played Sept. 30 at Wrigley Field. The start time has yet to be announced.
The Cubs, now 91-70, beat St. Louis 12-1 on Friday afternoon to put themselves in the driver's seat for home field. San Diego, which owned the tiebreaker based on intradivision record, also won Friday but would've needed to sweep the D-Backs and have the Cubs lose their final two games in order to steal the No. 4 seed.
The Cubs-Padres matchup was locked in Thursday after the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched the NL West title. The upcoming series will mark the first time the franchises have met in the postseason since the 1984 NLCS, when San Diego upset Chicago in five games.
The winner of Cubs-Padres will advance to face the NL's No. 1 seed - either the Milwaukee Brewers or Philadelphia Phillies - in the NLDS.
