2025 NL Silver Sluggers: D-Backs win 3, Ohtani makes more history

Major League Baseball revealed the 2025 National League Silver Slugger winners Thursday, honoring the Senior Circuit's best offensive players.

Winners were decided by votes from MLB managers and coaches, with each team's staff receiving four individual votes. A team award was also given to the NL's top offensive club.

This year's group of NL winners included five first-time honorees, while the Arizona Diamondbacks fielded the most individual winners with three.

The American League Silver Slugger winners will be revealed Friday.

Catcher

Winner: Hunter Goodman, Rockies (1st)

Goodman was the lone bright spot in an otherwise dismal Rockies offense. The 26-year-old had the highest wRC+ and slugging percentage (.520) among qualified NL backstops, while his 31 homers were tied for the second-most at his position. Goodman is the first Rockies catcher to win a Silver Slugger, and their first winner at any position since shortstop Trevor Story in 2019.

First base

Winner: Pete Alonso, Mets (1st)

Incredibly, this is Alonso's first Silver Slugger win despite being one of baseball's premier power hitters during his career. Alonso was top-five in the NL in extra-base hits, homers, RBIs, and slugging, and crossed the 30-homer mark for the sixth time in his seven-year career. He joins Keith Hernandez in 1984 as the only Mets first basemen to win this award.

Second base

Winner: Ketel Marte, D-Backs (2nd)

Marte is the first NL second baseman to win Silver Sluggers in consecutive years since Daniel Murphy in 2016-17. He led all qualified NL second basemen in wRC+ and homers, and was top-five in his league in OBP (.376), slugging (.517), and OPS. Marte becomes just the second D-Backs player to win multiple Silver Sluggers with the franchise, joining four-time winner Paul Goldschmidt.

Third base

Winner: Manny Machado, Padres (3rd)

Machado becomes the 10th third baseman to win at least three career Silver Sluggers, and the first to go back-to-back at the position since Nolan Arenado won four straight from 2015-18. His 27 homers and 123 wRC+ were both tops among NL third basemen who spent the entire season in the Senior Circuit (Eugenio Suárez hit 36 homers with Arizona before being traded to the AL).

Shortstop

Winner: Geraldo Perdomo, D-Backs (1st)

Perdomo's breakout offensive season saw him finish fifth in the majors in fWAR (7.1), and lead his position in wRC+ and OBP (.389) while drawing more walks (94) than strikeouts (83). He's the first D-Backs shortstop to ever win a Silver Slugger.

Outfield

Winners: Corbin Carroll, D-Backs (1st); Juan Soto, Mets (6th); Kyle Tucker, Cubs (2nd)

Carroll, the first D-Backs outfielder to win a Silver Slugger since 2018, earned this award for the first time after a stellar bounce-back season. He recorded a 30-30 campaign while also scoring 107 runs, tallying 80 extra-base hits, and leading the NL in triples (17) for a third straight year. Carroll was just the 12th player ever, and third since 1947, to finish with at least 30 homers, 30 doubles, and 15 triples in a single season, per Stathead.

Soto is a winner for the sixth consecutive season. The Mets' $765-million man recorded his second straight 40-homer campaign, led his league in OBP (.396), walks (127), and steals, scored 120 runs, and recorded a surprising 40-30 season while finishing two steals shy of 40-40. Soto is now the 11th outfielder to win at least six career Silver Sluggers.

Tucker earned his second Silver Slugger after finishing fourth in the NL in OBP, eighth in walks (87), and seventh in OPS+ (143). He also scored 91 runs and recorded a 20-20 season for the third time in his eight-year career. Tucker is just the fourth Cubs outfielder to win this award, and the first since Sammy Sosa in 2002.

Designated hitter

Winner: Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers (4th)

Ohtani's fourth Silver Slugger moves him into a tie with Hall of Famers Paul Molitor and Edgar Martínez for the second-most wins at DH. He's also the first player to win multiple DH Silver Sluggers in the NL. The reigning MVP was once again a beast offensively, leading his league in fWAR (7.2), wRC+, runs scored (146), total bases (380), slugging (.622), and OPS. He also became just the sixth player ever to record consecutive 50-homer seasons.

Runners-up: Kyle Schwarber (PHI), Christian Yelich (MIL)

Utility player

Winner: Alec Burleson, Cardinals (1st)

Burleson produced a steady offensive season for the Cardinals while splitting time between first base, left field, right field, and DH. The 26-year-old finished sixth in the NL in batting average, hitting a career-best .290/.343/.459 along with 144 hits and 26 doubles. Burleson is the fourth different player to win the utility Silver Slugger since its introduction in 2022.

Team

Winner: Los Angeles Dodgers

Add another honor to the two-time defending champions' trophy case. The Dodgers' bats led the NL in every offensive category en route to taking home the team Silver Slugger honor for a second straight season.
