Report: Yankees, Williams discussed potential reunion
The New York Yankees are interested in bringing back right-handed reliever Devin Williams, and the two sides have discussed the possibility of a reunion, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon.
Williams is a popular target for teams on the hunt for bullpen help. He's already been connected to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, and New York Mets in offseason rumors.
The 31-year-old had an up-and-down campaign with the Yankees in 2025 after they acquired him in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. He blew four saves and posted the highest ERA of his career but maintained strong strikeout numbers (13.1 K/9) and a solid FIP (2.68).
Williams expressed interest in returning to New York even though he was jeered by Yankees fans at points last season.
"I kind of got the complete experience," Williams said recently. "I started off bad. They're booing me as I come out of the bullpen. So, obviously, I got the worst of it at the beginning.
"And then in the end, I think against Toronto, they gave me a standing ovation as I'm coming off the mound. I got the full experience."
