Oviedo posted a 3.57 ERA in nine starts for the Pirates last season, striking out 42 hitters in 40 1/3 innings. The 27-year-old missed the 2024 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

He made 48 starts for the Pirates in three seasons after spending the first two big-league campaigns of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals. Oviedo owns a career 4.24 ERA and 4.61 FIP in the majors.

Oviedo will join ace Garrett Crochet and offseason trade acquisition Sonny Gray in Boston's rotation. Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford, and Patrick Sandoval are other rotation options for the Red Sox.

Neither Samaniego nor Guzman was among the Pirates' top 30 prospects.

Samaniego made 30 appearances in the minors last season, mostly in relief. The 26-year-old posted a 10.3 K/9 in 38 1/3 innings.

Guzman, 22, posted a .907 OPS with 44 RBIs during his last year of college ball at Arizona before the Pirates selected him in the fifth round of the 2025 draft.

Garcia, who goes by the nickname "The Password," posted a .619 OPS in five games for the Red Sox last season. He impressed in the minors, hitting 21 homers and adding 75 RBIs in 114 contests across two levels.

Garcia ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the Red Sox system before the trade.

Travieso, 18, pitched 39 innings in the Florida Complex League last season, authoring a 2.77 ERA and 12.0 K/9 in the process.
