Steve Cohen is disappointed the New York Mets still haven't won a World Series in his tenure as owner.

"I'm absolutely annoyed," Cohen said, according to ESPN's Jorge Castillo. "Every year that goes by, I get frustrated. I'm really committed to this team. And I know how much the fans care. I know we're celebrating the 40th anniversary of 1986, and that's just too long."

Cohen bought a controlling interest in the Mets prior to the 2021 season and stated his goal was for the club to win a World Series within three-to-five years. The franchise won its last championship in 1986.

The Mets enter Cohen's sixth year as owner on the heels of a disastrous campaign in which they missed the postseason and rebuilt the roster under president of baseball operations David Stearns.

NEW ADDITIONS DEPARTURES
Freddy Peralta Pete Alonso
Marcus Semien Brandon Nimmo
Bo Bichette Edwin Díaz
Jorge Polanco Jeff McNeil
Luis Robert Jr. Starling Marte
Devin Williams Cedric Mullins
Luke Weaver Luisangel Acuña
Luis García Ryan Helsley
Tobias Myers Tyler Rogers

Cohen said the Mets' offseason made him anxious after the Los Angeles Dodgers outbid his club for free agent Kyle Tucker and New York took its time adding players. Despite this, he believes his team is now in a better position to compete. He also understands that winning a World Series is harder than he thought when he bought the club.

"The longer I've been here, the more I've realized that all I can do is commit the resources, allow my baseball people to pick the places, and a lot of it goes year-to-year," Cohen said. "It's dependent on injuries, it's dependent on a lot of things. And it's really hard to predict the future."
