Report: Eric Young Sr. a 'strong candidate' for Rockies 1B coaching job
The Rockies have two vacancies on their coaching staff, and one of those -- the first-base coach job -- could go to Eric Young Sr., writes The Denver Post's Troy Renck:
"Young has experience coaching at the big league level, working two seasons as the Diamondbacks first base coach from 2010-12 and serving as a roving instructor for the Astros.
"Young, always remembered in Colorado for hitting the first home run at Mile High Stadium, worked with the Rockies base runners for two weeks in Scottsdale last spring. Manager Walt Weiss has encouraged ex-Rockies to become more involved with the organization. There was no full-time position at that time, and Young returned to Houston, doing pregame and postgame work on Houston Astros’ broadcasts."
Young Sr.'s son, Eric Young Jr., was traded by the Rockies to the Mets this past season. No hard feelings, clearly.
Young Sr. spent five years with the Rockies in the mid-90s, and holds the club record for stolen bases, with 180.
