Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Carlos Ruiz has signed a three-year, $26 million contract to return behind the plate for the Phils.
Ruiz was an all-star for the Phillies in 2012, and has posted a .274/.358/.412 line in eight seasons with the club, compiling 18.5 Wins Above Replacement according to Fangraphs, while providing 32 Defensive Runs Saved above average.
The veteran catcher turns 35 in January, he missed time last season with a hamstring strain, and was suspended for the first 25 games of the season for testing positive for amphetamine.
I'm told the Ruiz deal includes a club option for a fourth year in 2017.
