Salvador Perez is now the greatest power hitter in Kansas City Royals history.
The longtime Royals catcher slugged his 318th career homer Saturday to pass Hall of Famer and fellow franchise icon George Brett for the most in Royals history.

The monumental homer came against Detroit Tigers right-hander Kyle Finnegan in the seventh inning at Comerica Park in what wound up being a 3-2 win for the Royals.
Brett, who retired in 1993, had held the franchise record since April 9, 1986. The Royals legend wished Perez congratulations after breaking his record:

"Thank you, George," Perez said during an in-game interview after being shown the clip from Brett. "I don't know if he can see me right now, but I appreciate that majorly, thank you. ... I just try to be like you."
Perez is one of five active players to lead a franchise in home runs, joining Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels), Giancarlo Stanton (Miami Marlins), Pete Alonso (New York Mets), and Manny Machado (San Diego Padres). Only Perez, Trout, and Machado currently play for the franchises with which they hold the record.
