Someone bought Big Papi's beard for the price of a new car

A Gillette-hosted eBay auction for the beard shavings of Boston Red Sox players David Ortiz and Shane Victorino is finally over.

On Sunday, ESPN reported an unknown bidder paid $10,877.77 for Big Papi's World Series MVP clippings, about $1,000 less than the cost of a new Nissan Versa sedan.

The proceeds of the online event will go to the Movember cause, the men's charity that raises money for prostate and testicular cancer (and encourages all the fellas out there to sport a 'stache in November).

Via text message, the clutch designated hitter said: "I'm smiling bro. This is great. It has been a year to remember and I'm loving what we just did here. But what really matters most is raising money to fight cancer."

Another bidder will be the proud owner of Victorino's trimmings, his razor and an autograph for the bargain price of $3,750.69.

Sounds like two grand slams for cancer awareness, well done folks.

FYI: Victorino's beard could fetch you a 2002-ish Nissan Sentra sedan in excellent condition with under 100,000 miles, according to the Kelley Blue Book. Hello, Cyber Monday ideas!
