Hinske won the American League rookie of the year award back in 2002 with the Toronto Blue Jays, but was never able to replicate the individual success he had as a freshman.
He won a World Series title with the Boston Red Sox in 2007, and another two year later, with the New York Yankees.
The 12-year veteran, who was drafted by the Cubs in the 17th round of the 1998 MLB draft, has no previous coaching experience.
