Report: Yankees sign LHP Matt Thornton to two-year, $7-million deal

As the old saying goes: "Out with the Boone Logan, in with the Matt Thornton." The Yankees have reportedly signed Thornton, a 37-year-old left-handed reliever, to a two-year deal worth $7 million, tweets YES Network's Jack Curry. The deal's pending a physical. 

Thornton replaces Logan in the Yankees' bullpen, and at less than half the price, as Curry notes. Logan signed for $16.5 million over three years with the Rockies. 

Thornton had a 3.74 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 43 1/3 innings in 2013, split between the White Sox and Red Sox. He struck out 30, walked 15, and held left-handed hitters to a .638 OPS. 

Thornton's had an ERA under 4.00 in each of the last six seasons, and has a career 3.53 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 568 1/3 innings of relief. He's averaged 65 appearances since 2005.
