Frank Thomas: Sammy Sosa hitting 60 home runs was 'shady'

In a yet-to-be-aired interview with Jim Rome, freshly-minted Hall of Fame inductee Frank Thomas admitted that he was suspicious of Sammy Sosa's rise, once the defamed slugger bolted for the north-side of Chicago ahead of the 1992 season.

“I knew it was shady when Sammy Sosa hit 60 home runs. Sammy Sosa was my teammate for three years coming up. So watching his career and watching him grow, for three years he was capable of only 20-25, 27 home runs at the most," Thomas said via Ted Berg of USA Today. "There’s no way Sammy doubled me up."

Thomas admitted that he was far less wary of Sosa's home run race counterpart, Mark McGwire, because of the precedent he set with a 49-home run rookie season.
