Chone Figgins, who'll turn 36 on Jan. 22, worked out for nine clubs in Florida on Wednesday, writes Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal. And Figgins was on a mission:

"I wanted them to see the passion in my eyes.

"I basically told them, 'You can go back and tell your bosses that you saw it for yourself – you saw it on the field and you could see it in my eyes.'"

The Passion of the Figgins.

Figgins didn't play in 2013, after being released by the Marlins in the spring. He spent three disastrous seasons in Seattle, after a productive eight-year run with the Angels. He hit only .227/.302/.283 with the Mariners in 308 games, after signing a four-year, $35-million deal in December 2009 -- probably the worst free-agent contract ever handed out. One of them, at least.

Figgins went through a full, rigorous workout on Wednesday -- he can still get down the line, running 60 yards in 6.5 seconds. He hit, he ran, and he threw from the outfield and the infield. He showed off his passion, which can't be measured.

That wasn't all. Figgins even gave a passionate five-to-10 minute speech when the workout was over:

"I was thinking about thanking them beforehand for coming out. But I thought, 'I’ve got something to prove today,' so I would talk to them all afterward. And after I had a good workout, I wanted them to feel what I was saying.

"It could have been all prepared and rehearsed. But once it was all said and done, they had seen it for themselves. I knew I had a great day. First of all, I wanted to thank them. But I also wanted them to understand where I was coming from."

Doubt Chone Figgins at your peril, my friends.
