Alexei Ramirez sets 2 White Sox franchise records in April
Alexei Ramirez started 2014 on a tear, and after the first month of play, he hasn't slowed down.
The White Sox shortstop is leading the American League with a .351 average and has two franchise records in the books.
Ramirez, 32, opened the season on a franchise-record 17-game hit streak, and Wednesday, he broke Paul Konerko's franchise record with his 40th hit - a fourth-inning single - before May 1, without even knowing it. Konerko had to be the one to tell him.
According to MLB.com, Ramirez is the only player other than Buck Weaver (1920) to hit in 27 of his first 29 games.
"He always has hot months. They usually come later in the year," said Konerko, who has been Ramirez's teammate since the Cuban infielder was a rookie in 2008.
"There's no telling what he can do this year if he's off to the start he's off to, because it has always taken him a couple months to heat up and he's already clicking."
