A third pitcher has succumbed to injury Wednesday night, as the injury bug continues to bite big league hurlers on a seemingly nightly basis.

Michael Wacha was resting in the dugout when his teammate, Matt Adams, sent a seeing-eye liner whistling into the St. Louis Cardinals dugout that ricocheted off the wall and directly off the young right-hander's pitching elbow.

Seriously? What are the odds?

Wacha had to be removed from the game after throwing six innings of shutout ball. The Cardinals are calling his injury a right elbow contusion.

Wacha's injury was the third suffered by a starting pitcher on Wednesday night. San Francisco Giants starter Matt Cain left his start with a hamstring issue, and Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw was drilled in the shin with a ball off the bat of teammate Justin Turner in batting practice.
