Overview
Widely considered the top college pitcher in the draft, scouts expect Rodon to be off the board by pick number three. Although the junior posted a 117-strikeout-to-33-walk ratio this year, scouts say the 23-year-old left-hander struggles with command and lacks the upside of prep star Brady Aiken. However, Rodon makes up for it with what scouts grade a well above-average slider and a fastball that routinely sits in the mid-90s.
As a sophomore last spring, Rodon set a school record with 184 strikeouts en route to leading North Carolina State to its first College World Series berth in 35 years. Scouts say Rodon, considered the best college lefty since David Price, is a potential No. 1 arm with a major league-ready frame and a dominant pitch that will play in the pros.
