An exam on Pelfrey's shoulder found no issues, but the right-hander does have an irritated ulnar nerve in his elbow, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports. He'll get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews and may need to undergo minor surgery.

Pelfrey has an irritated ulnar nerve in his elbow, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports. He'll get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews and may need to undergo minor surgery.

Analysis:

Pelfrey, who had been rehabbing a groin injury, was sent to Minnesota on Wednesday to have his shoulder checked out. As it turns out, his shoulder is fine and his groin is doing much better, but the elbow issue could cost him more time. While it sounds like any surgery wouldn't be season-ending, Pelfrey can no longer be expected to rejoin the Twins in June.
