VIDEO: Benches clear after Machado takes exception to Donaldson's tag
After a routine play enraged Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, the benches cleared during the Oakland Athletics' first stop at Camden Yards this season.
Adam Jones drove a ground ball into the dirt that hopped to Josh Donaldson. Instead of throwing across the diamond, he stepped in front of Machado to apply the tag and end the inning.
Apparently thinking the put-out was too forceful, Machado threw his helmet in the direction of Donaldson as he stumbled to his feet. The pair then went nose-to-nose before the two benches rushed to pull Machado away.
Here's the seemingly harmless play that escalated far too quickly.

Donaldson's tag didn't come without retribution; Wei-Yin Chen plunked the third baseman three innings later.
