Though Gregory Polanco has made a tremendous impression during the early stages of his big-league career, the 22-year-old continues to make little progress in extension talks with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and reportedly rejected an 11-year offer shortly before getting promoted to the majors, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

The Pirates are said to have made a couple offers for differing lengths just before the talented Polanco was called up to the big leagues a couple weeks, and one of them included three club options to make it 11 total years and could have kept him in a Pirates uniform through '24, or until he was past 33. That proposal is believed to have carried the potential to be worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $75 million, with a majority of the money coming in the non-guaranteed option years.

The Pirates have tried incessantly to lock up their prized outfielder, who entered Friday's contest with the New York Mets hitting .338/.416/.441 with two homers and four stolen bases in 16 games, but negligible process has been made since Polanco rejected an offer in May "worth close to 25 million for seven years."

According to Heyman, Polanco has countered Pittsburgh's offers at least twice, but team management was reportedly surprised that the second counteroffer "was seen as no lower than a previous counteroffer."
