Mets and Pirates wear throwback Negro League uniforms
Over the past few years, North American pro sports seem to have become collectively obsessed with retro uniforms.
The over-abundance of throwbacks has sometimes muddied the significance behind them. Is it all about nostalgia? Will we simply always be looking backwards and pining for what was?
Well, on Saturday, the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates outfitted themselves in old-school unis that called back to something very specific. In an homage to the largely forgotten Negro League teams of the past, the Mets wore the uniforms of the Brooklyn Royal Giants, while the Pirates represented for the Pittsburgh Crawfords.
