Rays place Yunel Escobar on DL

Yunel Escobar (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list after Monday's game, Steve Carney of 620 WDAE reports.

Analysis:

Escobar hasn't played since June 24, meaning he'll be eligible to return July 11 against the Blue Jays. It's unclear whether he actually has a shot to be ready by that date, which falls just three days before the All-Star break. Ben Zobrist has been covering shortstop while Logan Forsythe handles second base, but the Rays may recall someone to help with the middle-infield workload.
