Report: MLBPA investigating agents involved in biogenesis scandal
The Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) is investigating the role player agents might have played in the Biogenesis doping scandal, T.J. Quinn of ESPN reports.
The MLBPA retained the services of attorney Robert Muse, who assisted the Senate investigation of the Watergate scandal, to head up the investigation in the spring and a full report is expected by mid-July.
The two primary subjects of the investigation are the ACES agency, run by well-known agents Seth and Sam Levinson and CAA, the agency that represents Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun, who has a history of performance-enhancing drug use.
ACES released the following the statement:
Biogenesis has been thoroughly investigated and there is no evidence of any wrongdoing on our part.
ACES represents 10 of the 25 major and minor league players who were identified as biogenesis clients, including Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Melky Cabrera.
CAA has not acknowledged the report of an impending investigation.
