Report: Mets' Colon on the trade block
The New York Mets intend to listen to trade offers for veteran righty Bartolo Colon as the trade deadline nears, reports the New York Post's Mike Puma.
The 41-year-old hurler inked a two-year contract worth $20 million last offseason and is owed $11 million next season, however, making him a potential costly addition for a playoff contender.
Colon continues to exceed expectations despite his age, recording an 8-6 record with a 3.88 ERA in 16 starts. He has 10 postseason starts to his credit, including one October outing for the Oakland Athletics last season - he took the loss after hurling six innings of three-run ball. His 3.70 career ERA in the playoffs is slightly lower than his 3.94 regular-season mark.
Colon joins a growing list of starting pitchers that could be on the move in July including, David Price, Jeff Samardzija, Jason Hammel, Cliff Lee, and Cole Hamels, to name a few.
Puma also reports the team is "reluctant" to trade starting pitcher Jon Niese.
