As the division-leading Oakland Athletics continue to march towards the playoffs, rumors have circulated that they are interested in making a upgrade in the middle of their infield.
The A's are reportedly interested in second baseman Nick Franklin of the Seattle Mariners, who is a highly coveted prospect that found himself out of room when Robinson Cano was brought to town in the offseason.
Incumbent A's second baseman Eric Sogard is struggling mightily, posting a .194/.261/.225 line in 64 games.
Along with an interest in Franklin, the SFGate is reporting the A's have also kicked tires on Tampa Bay's Ben Zobrist, as well as the Philadelphia Phillies' Chase Utley.
The Athletics made headlines earlier this season by moving prospects Addison Russell and Billy McKinney in exchange for pitching help in the form of Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel, meaning it could be difficult for them to put together a proper package for a top prospect from a division rival such as Franklin.
