The New York Yankees scouted San Diego Padres starting pitcher Ian Kennedy on Wednesday night, and are reportedly attempting to acquire the right-hander one day later.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports, however, the asking price is too steep for Kennedy at the moment.

The Padres are indeed asking for two of the Yankees' 2013 first-round selections. Jagielo, a third base prospect selected 26th overall, is demonstrating good power in the Florida State League with 11 homers in 50 games.

Clarkin, a left-handed pitcher taken with the 33rd pick, is having a fine season with Class- A Charleston, boasting a 3.36 ERA over 61 2/3 innings of work with 68 strikeouts.

Jagielo and Clarkin are the No. 4 and No. 7-ranked prospects, respectively, in the Yankees system according to MLB.com.

Kennedy, 29, is 8-9 with a 3.66 ERA in 22 starts for the Friars and will be a free agent at season's end.

Bowden also reports the Yankees have their eye on Colorado Rockies lefty Jorge De La Rosa.
