If we learned anything Monday, it's that pitching will be the story of Major League Baseball's July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. Thursday at 4 p.m. ET is inching ever closer, and here are the latest trade rumors from around the league:
- The Los Angeles Dodgers want one of the top starters available on the market. They're reportedly investigating all options: Tampa Bay Rays ace David Price, Philadelphia Phillies lefty Cole Hamels, and Boston Red Sox starters Jon Lester and John Lackey.
- Here's the Lester round-up: He reportedly wants a contract worth between $22 and $24 million a season for five or six years from the Red Sox; Boston is willing to move him and Lackey for the right price; the Baltimore Orioles, a divisional rival, have inquired about him; but while Boston's willing to trade him, the chances of the Red Sox moving Lester are "less than 50-50," according to ESPN Boston's major league source, even though offers are on the table (the same "less than 50-50" chances apply to left-handed reliever Andrew Miller, according to ESPN Boston). And while the Red Sox have reportedly talked to the Dodgers, no names have been discussed, not even Matt Kemp's. And now you know.
- Hamels is available out in Philadelphia, but it'll cost a team "the world." If anyone's worth that price, it's him.
- The trade market for New York Mets starter Bartolo Colon isn't heating up. The opposite, actually: "Absolutely nothing," according to the New York Daily News, even though four teams - the Toronto Blue Jays, St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Atlanta Braves - reportedly scouted Colon's start against the Phillies and A.J. Burnett on Monday.
- The Red Sox reportedly aren't interested in listening to offers for Koji Uehara. So don't bother.
- They're selling in Texas, but Rangers Adrian Beltre and Yu Darvish are reportedly "virtually untouchable." Like Beltre's head.
- Finally, the Seattle Mariners and Braves are interested in upgrading their bench, and are reportedly talking with the San Diego Padres about outfielder Chris Denorfia.
