New Red Sox OF Allen Craig heads to DL with ankle injury
With just one game on his resumé with the Boston Red Sox, newly acquired outfielder Allen Craig is headed to the 15-day disabled list with an ankle injury.
Craig made his debut with the club Friday after being added along with Joe Kelly in exchange for John Lackey at the trade deadline, and went 1-for-4 with a double while manning left field. He hurt his left ankle, however, and while he was originally listed as day-to-day, the team has opted to rest him up and open up a roster spot in the meantime.
Farrell on Craig: "Not related to old injury as far as I know, the injury is not a timely one, it never is. We've gotta support him"

With Craig on the sidelines, Yoenis Cespedes - also acquired at the deadline - will man left field, though the team sees him in right, eventually.
Before being acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals, Craig was batting .237/.291/.348, a disappointing start to what had promised to be a strong year. Craig was coming off a 2013 season that saw him produce on offense at a rate 34 percent above the league average, following partial-season marks of 37 percent and 54 percent above the league rate.
Moving to Fenway Park should help the righty pull hitter, but the Red Sox won't see those results for at least two weeks.
