Tigers' Verlander removed from game with right shoulder soreness
On a night when the Detroit Tigers bullpen needed Justin Verlander, the former Cy Young winner provided them with the shortest regular-season outing of his career.
Verlander lasted just one inning Monday in Pittsburgh after allowing five runs - four earned - on four hits and two walks while throwing 40 pitches. Verlander came out for his at-bat in the second inning but was subsequently removed by manager Brad Ausmus following a sacrifice bunt and was replaced by Justin Miller.
Justin Verlander left the game tonight due to right shoulder soreness. Further evaluated Tuesday.

On Sunday, the Tigers dropped their series finale in Toronto in a 19-inning marathon that featured six relievers and even forced starter Rick Porcello to throw a pair of innings.
Verlander's struggles have been well documented this season. Entering Monday's start, the 31-year-old owned a 10-10 record to go with a 4.57 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 157 2/3 innings.
