Brett Anderson will indeed require surgery to repair a bulging disc in his lower back, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.

Anderson, as expected, will undergo season-ending surgery Thursday to repair a herniated disc in his lower back, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.

Analysis:

After a week of rest and treatment, Anderson's back pain showed little sign of improvement and upon further examination by spinal surgeon Dr. Chris Yeung on Monday, surgery was required to fix the issue. The procedure is set to take place Thursday and typically comes along with a five-month recovery period. The good news is that Anderson is expected to be ready for spring training in 2015. However, it seems unlikely that the Rockies will opt to exercise their $12 million option on the 26-year-old lefty.
