Felix Hernandez was initially scheduled to start Wednesday's game, but the club opted Monday to give the 28-year-old a few extra days of rest.
Ramirez has vacillated between the majors leagues and Triple-A for much of the season, making 13 starts for the Mariners across several intermittent stints with the club. The 24-year-old owns a 4.06 ERA with a 1.49 WHIP through 64 1/3 innings for the Mariners this season, but hurled 4 1/3 scoreless innings against the Chicago White Sox in his most recent outing at the major-league level.
