Former Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland Athletics pitcher Bob Welch's premature death in June was caused by a fall in his bathroom, the Orange County Coroner's office revealed to the San Jose Mercury News.
The Los Angeles Dodgers originally said Welch had suffered a fatal heart attack. However, an autopsy report concludes that Welch's death was caused by "a cervical spine fracture 'with epidural hemorrhage due to hyperextension of neck'" after a fall in his bathroom.
At the time of his death, Welch was a minor-league pitching coach in the Oakland Athletics organization.
Welch passed away June 9 at the age of 57. He won three World Series titles and one Cy Young Award.
