Philadelphia Philles catcher Carlos Ruiz admitted Thursday that he has battled soreness in his left shoulder for the entire campaign, the result of a mishap in the weight room during Spring Training, according to CSNPhilly.
The 35-year-old has consequently started only 35 of his team's 58 games since the All-Star break, as his condition worsened as the season progressed. Ruiz will undergo tests when the season ends and is not sure whether he'll need surgery.
"It depends on what they see," he said.
An All-Star in 2012, Ruiz hit .258/.349/.381 (105 OPS+) with six home runs and 24 doubles in 103 games this season.
