A's slugger Brandon Moss to undergo offseason hip surgery
Brandon Moss has at least a partial explanation for his second-half woes.
The Oakland Athletics slugger will undergo microfracture surgery on his right hip during the offseason, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. An MRI on Moss' hip revealed torn cartilage.
Moss, who said the injury has affected his range of motion, received a cortisone shot prior to Wednesday's loss to the Los Angeles Angels, but intends to play through the pain.
"The shot should help me get through the rest of the season, but it won’t fix it," Moss said.
Moss' numbers have tumbled off after a robust first half in which he hit .268/.349/.530 with 21 homers. The first baseman has hit just .179 with a .312 on-base percentage since the All-Star break and has been zapped of his power. Moss has four second-half homers while slugging a paltry .280.
