Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez to return in 2015; Bo Porter hired as 3rd base coach
The Atlanta Braves stumbled to a disastrous second-half finish, but it won't cost manager Fredi Gonzalez his job.
Braves general manager John Hart announced Friday Gonzalez will return for a fifth season, despite the club missing out on the postseason for the first time since 2011.
Gonzalez is joined by former Houston Astros manager Bo Porter, who will serve as the team's third-base coach. Porter was fired by the Astros amid rumors of a strained relationship with GM Jeff Luhnow.
The Astros went 110-190 (.367) during the two seasons Porter was at the helm.
Gonzalez has had a successful run as manager of the Braves, guiding the club to a 358-290 (.552) record and a pair of playoff appearances.
The Braves struggled, however, as the months wore on this season, going 62-74 after winning 17 of their first 26 games. Atlanta finished tied for second place with the New York Mets in the National League East, 17 games behind the division-leading Washington Nationals.
