Alfonso Soriano is reportedly calling it quits after a 16-year career.

The 38-year-old announced his retirement Tuesday, according to Hector Gomez of Listin Diario in the Dominican Republic. Soriano reportedly told Gomez he lost his love for the game.

The seven-time All-Star finishes as a .270/.319/.500 career hitter with 412 home runs. He played for four different teams, including two stints with the New York Yankees.

Soriano, who struggled this season after reviving his career with a 34-homer year in 2013, was released by the Yankees in July.

The Dominican Republic native, who came up as a second baseman before transitioning to the outfield, was traded from the Yankees to the Texas Rangers after the 2003 season for superstar Alex Rodriguez.

Soriano established himself as one of the game's top offensive second baseman in New York and continued to put up big numbers in Texas, making a pair of All-Star appearances before a one-year stint with the Washington Nationals.

Washington converted him to left field for the 2006 season and he responded with a career-high 46 homers, adding 41 stolen bases. He became one of four players in major league history to compile a 40-40 season, and is the last to accomplish the feat.

The Chicago Cubs rewarded him in free agency for the exceptional start to his career, inking him to an eight-year, $136-million contract in November 2006.

Soriano's streak of 12 consecutive seasons hitting at least 20 homers was snapped this year. He ranks 50th on Major League Baseball's all-time home run list.
