Report: Korean pitcher Hyeon-Jong Yang to be posted
Another international pitcher is reportedly set to hit the open market.
Korean left-hander Hyeon-Jong Yang will soon be posted by the Kia Tigers, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News. The 26-year-old is considered among the top Korean pitchers and won the Choi Dong-won Award, given to the top arm in the league, this past season.
Yang went 16-8 with a 4.25 ERA over 165 innings, striking out just under a batter per inning, according to his player page on Baseball Reference.
Citing a source, Feinsand says Yang has a four-pitch mix consisting of a curveball, slider, changeup and fastball that sits between 92-95 mph.
The team that submits the highest posting bid to the Tigers will win the rights to negotiate exclusively with Yang and then have a 30-day window to sign him.
Yang will look to follow a similar path to that of Los Angeles Dodgers southpaw Hyun-Jin Ryu, who became the first player to go directly from a professional Korean league to the majors when he was posted by the Hanwha Eagles in 2012. The Dodgers bid $25.7 million for Ryu before inking him to a six-year, $36-million deal.
