Report: Red Sox aggressively pursuing Sandoval
The Boston Red Sox are reportedly "all in" on free-agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval, according to Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston.
Sandoval is among the most high-profile players on the open market after hitting .294/.346/.465 in seven seasons with the San Francisco Giants and helping the team win three World Series titles.
Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington met Tuesday with Sandoval's agent Gustavo Vazquez, and said he had a constructive conversation, according to Edes.
Sandoval makes sense for the Red Sox based on the injuries and struggles that have affected third baseman Will Middlebrooks. Signing Sandoval would allow Boston to strictly deploy 22-year-old Xander Bogaerts - one of the organization's top assets - at shortstop.
Sandoval is reportedly seeking a long-term deal in excess of $100 million. The Giants, Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox are also reported to have interest in the two-time All-Star.
