Report: Marlins, Stanton have deal in place for 13-year, $325-million extension
The Miami Marlins and Giancarlo Stanton reportedly have a deal in place that will pay the two-time All-Star a record $325 million over 13 years, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
While the term would keep Stanton in Miami until he's 38, Heyman notes that the contract includes an early opt-out clause in addition to a no-trade provision. Should he choose to, Stanton will have the ability to opt out not long after he turns 30.
Neither side has yet to make the announcement official, though Heyman notes the Marlins will hold a press conference Wednesday.
Stanton has been superb through his first five seasons in the majors and is coming off a career-year that saw him finish second in National League MVP voting. The 25-year-old belted 37 home runs and 105 RBIs in 145 games, while slashing .288/.395/.555.
