Next year will mark a new era in the executive branch of Major League Baseball.

Executive vice president of business Tim Brosnan will step down from his position at the end of January, the league announced Wednesday. Brosnan, who was a candidate to become the next commissioner, joins outgoing commissioner Bud Selig as two members of the executive committee in their final month on the job.

"I thank Tim for more than two decades of dedicated service to Major League Baseball and our 30 clubs," Selig said in a statement. "His efforts benefited many facets of our game and contributed to the prosperous state of the National Pastime today. I wish Tim nothing but the best of luck in the future."

Brosnan joined MLB in 1991 as vice president of business affairs for MLB International and more recently oversaw broadcasting and media rights, licensing and marketing, among other duties.

Selig is set to step down from his post Jan. 25 to make way for commissioner-elect, and current COO, Rob Manfred.
