The Boston Red Sox's search for starting pitching has gone through Detroit.

The Red Sox contacted the Tigers about potentially trading Yoenis Cespedes for Rick Porcello, ESPN's Gordon Edes reports.

The deal was not a match, according to Edes, and there's no word on whether the teams are still discussing a trade involving the duo.

Both players are set to become free agents following the 2015 campaign.

The Red Sox have also reportedly talked about the possibility of sending Cespedes to the San Diego Padres in exchange for righty Ian Kennedy.
