Brandon Finnegan: Will Stretch Out as Starter
Royals manager Ned Yost said that Finnegan will be stretched out as a starter to begin spring training. "We're going to stretch him out in spring training and see what we've got, go from there," Yost said. "Exactly where he's going to start, I don't know."
Analysis:
When discussing the Royals' current bullpen, Yost cited the effectiveness of his right-handed relievers against left-handed hitters as a reason for not going out of the way to acquire left-handed bullpen help. Finnegan offers the Royals much more long-term value as a starter, though it remains to be seen which level Finnegan would be assigned to as a starter after getting aggressively promoted to Double-A after being drafted in the first round by the Royals last June.
