Marlon Byrd remains one of the veterans the Philadelphia Phillies would like to unload this winter as part of their efforts to rebuild, and the club may have found a trading partner in the American League.
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Baltimore Orioles met with the Phillies at the winter meetings Tuesday to discuss Byrd, who turns 38 in August and has a vesting option for the 2016 season.
Though Byrd possesses limited no-trade protection in his contract, the Orioles were not among the four teams the veteran outfielder could veto trades with last season. Byrd, whose name surfaced in rumors around the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, enjoyed another solid campaign at the plate in 2014 as he hit .264/.312/.445 (110 OPS+) with 25 home runs in 154 games.
The Orioles, meanwhile, remain eager to bolster their lineup - and their outfield, in particular - after losing both Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis to free agency earlier this offseason.
