Report: Blue Jays to sign Andrew Albers
The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly on the verge of adding another Canadian to the organization.
The Blue Jays are close to signing 29-year-old left-hander Andrew Albers, according to Sportsnet's Barry Davis. The Saskatchewan native spent the 2014 season with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korean Baseball Organization. Though Davis didn't specify, Albers is likely to receive only a minor-league deal.
Albers fashioned a 5.89 ERA with a 1.59 WHIP over 28 starts for the Eagles last season, managing a 15.8 percent strikeout rate while yielding 1.1 home runs per nine innings in the hitter-friendly league.
Selected in the 10th round in the 2008 draft, Albers logged 10 starts with the Minnesota Twins back in 2013, his only stint in the major leagues. Albers crafted a 4.05 ERA in his brief stint with Minnesota, collecting just 25 strikeouts over 60 innings of work.
